Our August of Abandon

August started with a trip to the beach. The summer days were mild here in Marin County, which meant the weather at the beach was a bit cold and windy. Of course, that didn't stop the kids from stripping down to their swimsuits and jumping straight in the frigid waters of the Pacific!

Sean, Skye and I snuck away to the movies a few times. Here we are waiting for Shorts to start. This is one of the very few non-3D movies we've seen lately. We are anxiously awaiting the release of Cloudy With A Chance of Meatballs later this month. And October brings a veritable cinematic bonanza with Toy Story & Toy Story 2 being digitally remastered in 3D and re-released for a limited 2 week engagement, The Nightmare Before Christmas also got the same make-over a few years ago and will be back, and the all new Where The Wild Things Are!! We may just move into the theater!

Sean and Skye are my two little nearly identical "twins". As they are getting older, impossible as it seems, they are looking even more and more alike.

Sean adores Skye and when I'm not looking, he often steals my camera and takes pictures of her and himself. I never know what surprises are lurking inside when I review the stored pictures!

The first day of school was August 20th. Jason started his Senior year of high school. Tad's in 8th grade, his last year in middle school. Sean is in the 3rd grade and a new school. And Skye, my little sweet pea, is now a big Kindergartener! Cali is working full time for a year, saving for college. Her plans are to go to Santa Rosa junior college with Jason next year.

On August 22, my grandfather celebrated his 88th birthday! He and Grandma recently moved into an assisted living home just a few miles down the road. We are really enjoying having them so close for a change. We visit them often. Lately, I've been seeing them nearly every day.

All in all, it was a great summer. Definitely over way too soon. But at the same time, we are happy to be back to our fall routine, looking forward to the brisk autumn days and all the fun holidays that come along with it. Sean and Jason's birthdays are just around the corner and then it's Halloween, Thanksgiving, Christmas and the next thing you know, it's not 2009 anymore!
